FlickR - The New Hot Sidebar Item
After spending an hour or so mulling around the WordPress Codex and various other helpful sites, I’ve managed to successfully install a couple new items on this blog: A FlickR box, a Tagging plugin, and I’ve added the “home” link to the Pages menu. That was harder than you’d think for something so sensible.
The Home Page link was the toughest thing to add, and I found the answer here, in case anyone else is suffering from the same problem. I don’t really understand how it works, but if you cut and paste the code in there, it works. Just dont’ forget to replace the link destination to your *own* site ;).
The coolest addition by far is the FlickR box, though. It’s supposed to randomly cycle through the pictures I’ve uploaded to my FlickR account—and at the moment those are mostly the various nature/artsy scenic pictures I’ve had loaded on to my computer for ages. There are a few with me in them, but I’ve kept away from photos with other people in them for the moment (except some of my oxy friends) just because I don’t want to stick my family up on the internet without asking them. I’ll keep updating the account as I take more pictures, though, and expect a big update after I take my two-week blitz tour of France, Italy, and Israel in late August.
In any case, this should let you get a small sampling of my virtual “photo album” every time you visit—which I think is an incredibly cool idea.
