My Yahoo!...sucks?
After hearing again and again about the virtues of using My Yahoo! as a homepage—it gathers rss feeds, it’s got all the info you need, search box, completely customizeable, etc, etc…I decided to give a go at creating a new home for my browser. After all, having that kind of info at your fingertips every time your start your browser (mostly it’s the feeds that tempted me) would be really cool.
But you know what? My Yahoo! is really horrible. Especially when compared to what I have currently set as my home: customized Google. To start with, My Yahoo! is horribly ugly—no matter how much I attempted to tweak it, the screen was cluttered and confusing, the top banner ad is gaudy and annoying, and for some reason you I can’t seem to move any of the content to either of the side bars.
After spending about half an hour trying to make something I could look at and not scream, I came up with this:

Now compare that with my current Google home:

Tell me, which one would you rather look at? I don’t think there’s even a question. It’s too bad, because I really do like Yahoo!, and I think being able to add an RSS feed to my start page is a really neat idea—but their layout / user friendliness team needs to get on the ball. Me? I’m gonna wait for Google to roll out RSS support.
Now I just have to figure out how to keep these damn screens from showing up in my FlickR badge on the side…anyone know how to do that?
