Learning about Laptops

In the past few days, through the process of thinking that my laptop was fucked and off to the fujitsu shop in a cardboard box, then miraculously fixing it, I’ve learned a bit about laptops that I didn’t know before.

Apparently, as long as the thing isn’t on…liquid isn’t really going to hurt it. I’m not sure if this applies to the hard drive, but for all electrical purposes, if something gets spilled on your laptop—turn it off. It makes sense, really—if there’s no juice running through the box, you can’t really short anything. As long as there’s nothing corrosive in whatever spilled (something like sugar would be BAD NEWS), just wait for the thing to dry out.

Which is precisely what I did. And now, I’m back up and running normally.

What’s really funny is that if I want to really make sure my laptop comes out okay, I should unscrew the thing, pull out the keyboard and whatnot, and wash it off with water.
