Categories
I’ve never really been happy with the way the categories have worked out on this blog. When I first installed Wordpress on Jason-Preston.com, I wasn’t really sure how I wanted to divide my posts, and so now I’m plagued with the hangovers of a directory structure that doesn’t really fit what I’m doing.
As such, I’ve given some thought to the categories, and decided that what categories are really there for are for sorting. They’re convenient because they allow me to filter my posts---for example, if I want, later in life, to read over my posts on travel, I can simply click on the “Travel” category, and I’ve got a list of every entry I wrote and tagged as a “travel” entry. I’m leaving “Thoughts” up for now, because it just may happen that at some later point I’d like to be able to grab a quick list of my more thoughtful posts.
I’ve also added a new category, called “Games.” Up until now, I’ve been reserving my game-related thoughts for my collaborative gaming-blog Flicker. But video games are definitely an interest of mine, and I feel that this blog would be somewhat incomplete without it. What I’m going to try to do—and we’ll see how it works, is link the rss feed from my Games category to a posting script over at Flicker, so that everything I post in “Games” here will automatically get reproduced over there.
With any luck, this’ll work.
