Hellgate: London

Hellgate: London caught my eye several months ago whenPC Gamer ran a feature article on it. Basically, the team that created Diablo essentially left Blizzard en masse to form a new group intent on re-defining gaming again.

I was upset at the time, because the article overlooked the fact that Hellgate: London was, in design, essentially the same as Deus Ex[Image removed], which is probably one of my favorite games of all time. But if I can look past the slight insult to a game that really deserves some credit, Hellgate: London keeps looking better and better.

For those of you unfamiliar with Deus Ex, HG London is somewhat like a first person Diablo—you wander the levels and collect items, killing your enemies along the way. The innovations they claim are that the first-person genre is introduced to an inventory system (in Deus Ex) and that the levels might be randomly constructed (that would be damn cool).

In any case, the official site just released some new screenshots. They look cool. And I’m excited.
