Money for Blogging

Wired’s article Can Bloggers Strike It Rich? underlines the way in which I think the blogosphere can be monetized: not personally.

If you’re keeping a personal blog, it’d better not be for money.

The article focuses on the two major players in blogging money—Nick Denton and Jason Calcanis. Both of these people are doing fabulously well, but not through their personal journals. Calcanis has masterminded the creation of a slough of niche-related blogs, hiring hundreds of staff and bloggers to create a company. Denton has done the same thing, but he’s concentrated on fewer blogs for (probably) a higher yeild. This is not personal blogging, this is business.

If you want to make money as a blogger, you should look for a job blogging.

Find a company or organization that will pay you to blog about what you like. Relying on adsense or blogads is not a particularly reliable option.
