Miers
Ready for another round?
Bush chose O’Connor’s replacement: his former personal lawyer Harriet Miers.
Surprisingly, it says that Harry Reid (minority leader) had actually encouraged the [Image removed]administration to consider nominating Miers. Interesting considering that she has never been a judge. I’d like to say right off (like Fred does) that I disagree basically on principle, but I think I’ll wait until I have something solid to disagree about.
Regardless, the Supreme Court is an incredibly difficult institution to fill. Mainly, the problem is that every American wants to know, “how will you rule on x?” when the only appropriate answer is really “I don’t know until I hear the case.”
Once we have judges going into the court truly (or at least publicly) pre-disposed to certain decisions, then we’ve degraded the Supreme Court into a partisan political tool. And that is what it should not become.
