Violent Video Games
I’d like to point out that Schwarzenegger, of all people, has signed a bill against video-game violence (the irony almost hurts):
Assemblyman Lee, who sponsored the bill, said, “Unlike movies where you passively watch violence, in a video game, you are the active participant and making decisions on who to stab, maim, burn or kill,” said Assemblyman Leland Yee, the San Francisco Democrat who authored the bill. “As a result, these games serve as learning tools that have a dramatic impact on our children.”
Basically, the law will make it illegal for retailers to sell “violent video games” to minors, punishable by a fine of up to $1000. It makes me mad on principle.
I really resent the “public image” of video games as basically training kits for the mentally deranged and violently cruel.
