Show me the BASE

Google Base.

There’s a lot of speculation flying about the blogosphere this morning about the Google Base page that popped up for a minute or two (base.google.com) and then quietly disappeared. I think it sounds really cool.

To get a good idea of what it (may or may not) be about, there’s a good summary, with pictures, here.

As an idea, it’s a little hard to wrap your head around, just like The Long Tail, but with this online “database” for all sorts of personal entries, Google could create another virtual marketplace. A kind of Craigslist meets ebay setup, and with their little micropay system in place…
