Staying the course

I few days ago, my friend Jacob resposted an article on Iraq, which I read and meant to post about sooner.

The main point I understood the article to make is that America can do Iraq right. And, really, I have no qualms with that statement. I never really believed that, once we began the war, we should have half-assed it or high-tailed out the second we could.

Yes, the US should (and will) make a timely withdrawal, but not until Iraq can support itself. I have friends who are in Iraq, and I’ve heard from them that it’s a very different picture than what we see in the news. I’m sure that if we make the effort to show, as US citizens, that we are in fact dedicated to the state building mission we have engaged in, it will turn out well.
