What is film noir?

Today I’m turning in the 3,000 word paper I wrote for my Film Noir class. It was one of those papers where the prompt was: “think of your own prompt.”

So the question I tried to answer was:

To what extent can the films Minority Report, Dark City, and Blade Runner be considered part of the film noir genre?

Overall, I’m pretty happy with the way the paper turned out (unlike the paper for my IR class, which deserves a D at best), so I’m going to post a .pdf copy of the film noir paper online, in the exact form it will be when I turn it in, and see how long it takes my professor to accuse me of plaigarism ;)
