Quick thought on iPods
[Image removed]I’ve seen a few posts and links recently about iPods, and people discussing whether or not Apple is intentionally making iPods that break after warranty.
Frankly, I don’t think they are. But one of the interesting comments I saw thrown about somewhere is that the iPod is a “fashion device.” When you buy an iPod, it’s like buying designer clothing (someone, I don’t remember who, said), and if you want something funcitonal you can get any other mp3 player.
I think that’s mostly bollocks. I bought an iPod for function. The fact of the matter is that iPods are selling so damn well becuase they’re basically the best option on the market.
Find me an mp3/video player with 60gb of space, 16-20hr battery life, 320x240 resolution, and the same size and weight below $400, and I’d seriously consider using it, especially if it didn’t lock me into specific video formats or prevent me from moving audio two-ways with my computer.
But, for some reason, nobody else can put that together. End of story.
