SEO and getting web traffic

I don’t want to jump the gun on this too much, since I plan to write a bigger piece on it later (but I know myself - if I don’t write it immediately, I might never write it at all) but…

Since we launched Flicker Gaming in early May, I’ve been spending a lot, and I mean a lot of time trying to funnel some traffic over that way. I don’t really have a lot of experience promoting websites, so it’s a learn-as-I-go sort of process.

But the more research I do looking at how to drive web traffic to my site, the more I realize that the vast majority of traffic strategies rely on cheating the system. That’s not what I want to do.

Google (and other search engines) work well because they send users to the results they want to find. Trying to cheat that system and trick people into visiting my site isn’t going to establish any sort of loyal readership, and it certainly isn’t going to make search engines like me (in the long run).

So I’m doing my best without the crazy schemes to shoot millions of visitors my way. More posts on this as thoughts warrant.
