Little differences between Movable Type and Wordpress

As I’m working for Parnassus Ventures, the company that does the Blog Business Summit, I’ve been spending some time working around blogs built in both Movable Type (the BBS page) and Wordpress (basically everything I do, including the not-yet-live Parnassus site).

It’s kind of odd to see the two engines stacked up against each other. Teresa, who webmasters the BBS site, just recently figured out how to make the post titles permalinks, which is how Wordpress is by default. This seems ridiculously overcomplicated.

However, if you want to create a sub blog in Wordpress, you literally have to do a second install, and then re-work your navigation menu to reflect that. I think the process is somewhat (although not entirely) easier in Movable Type.

I still think there’s precious little that can be done in Movable Type (which you pay for) that can’t be done in Wordpress (which is free). Hooray open source.
