Drive traffic with a contest

It’s been my plan for some time to try and run a contest on Flicker to drive some traffic and help put our site “out there.”

Part of the problem with arranging a contest though is that you have to strike a balance between making it simple enough that people will do it (and having a good enough prize), and still retaining value from it yourself.

But I’ve been second-guessing that strategy since people are basically lazy and un-motivated. My friends at Destructoid are running a contest this month for a Nintnendo DS - to enter, (as far as I can tell) you guess a number between 0-200, and register at their site.

Sounds like a low barrier, right? Especially for something as juicy-sweet as a Nintendo DS.

Well, I’ve told a few of my friends who have considered buying a DS from a store about the contest, and none of them have shown any interest in participating. Which doesn’t bode well for contests.
