Technorati becomes a feedreader, I want my web sites back

[Image: feed icon grayscale]Has anyone else noticed that with it’s latest revision, technorati has become a feedreader as well as a blog search engine?

They encourage you to “favorite” blogs, and then they track the latest posts from your favorite blogs and post them on the front page. You can click through to the article’s text within the Technorati frame.

Everyone’s gone all crazy about RSS. Yes, it’s a great technology, but it should be invisible.

More and more I find myself using bookmarks for everything but homepage widgets. I actually like going to individual sites - they all have a distinct footprint that is part of what makes the blog unique and individual (like Fred Wilson’s blog bling - you can hate the load times, but that’s part of who he is!).

Sooner or later people are going to figure out that they still like web sites. I hate reading a bunch of text in a little dialog-box rss reader, and I love checking out new sites. RSS is good for notification and bookmarking, not for reading. Figure it out guys.
