Two cents on paying social bookmarkers

[Image: digg lego logo]I never commented on this because I thought it would die out pretty quickly, but the blogosphere is all about beating a dead horse, so I’m gonna drag the carcass in here for two quick cents:

  1. New Netscape has always been centered around mixing editorial content with community content. How can paying people to, like an editor, select stories for “print” possibly be an unexpected or unplanned or even unreasonable extension of the concept?

  2. If paying someone to do more of something they do well invalidates that work, then the whole basis for our capitalistic society falls apart. Why are we paying athletes? So Jason spotted people doing something that, if doing it paid the bills, they could do even better? Gee, what a horrible idea it is to pay them.

I’m doing some more cool stuff with regards to Netscape and Digg right now. I’ll post on it in a few days when I’ve got my thoughts together.
