BeyondTV to the rescue

[Image removed]After my post the other day about how much of a headache getting HDTV working has been, I got an e-mail from Rakesh at Snapstream (the people that make BeyondTV). He was extremely nice and offered to provide me with a copy of BeyondTV to see if I couldn’t get the program guide working and finally get settled in with my PVR package.

Since I’m still not able to get SageTV working properly (the folks at SageTV support have been reasonably but not extremely helpful), I told him I’d give it a shot.

I downloaded the trial version again today and I’ve got it mostly set up and…surprise surprise, the HDTV runs smoothly like I expected it to. I’ve also, at the moment, got the program guide working the way I’d like it to.

It seems like the trick to getting it to run properly is to have a snapstream.net account before you do the install and setup. For some reason, at lest on my system, that jogged the program so it actually downloaded the data.

In short, I’m looking forward to getting the product in full and starting to play with the interface.

So for now I’ve got my HDTV (and it looks pretty) coming in just fine and my regular TV coming in poorly over an antenna. Thursday the satellite install is supposed to happen, at which point the last step is trying to get BeyondTV to play nice with my DishNetwork reciever.

My guess is that’s going to be the last significant hurdle to my setup. I’ll let you guys know how the satellite install goes, and once I’ve got it all set up I might give a little tour of my setup just because…well I’ll be proud of it.
