At least I learned a thing or two
[Image removed — original hosted on WordPress]As was posted on Flicker thursday, Ethan and I have decided to officially shut the site down for now (and probably forever).
This was a pretty painful decision to make, because I put *a lot* of time and effort into Flicker, and I ended up in the extremely unfortunate position of having to abandon something that was working, albeit slowly.
We were growing as a site until late September and October, when I discovered that between “real” work and school I really didn’t have the time to keep posting twice a day to Flicker, troubleshoot the site, and run the promotional whatnot that I had planned. It’s harder than you think to find good bloggers.
In any case, despite the fact that there were actually a number of problems contributing to the decision to close up shop, there were a lot of things that we were doing right.
For one thing, I think that Flicker is probably the best design I’ve ever done for a blog. If I thought that it were the right structure for my own personal blog, you can bet I’d have ported it over here a long time ago. Flicker is the only site that, once I finished the design, I haven’t wanted to change since.
Also, I’m going to miss having something to run. Sure, I run my own blog (here) and I do a lot of stuff at the Blog Business Summit, but it’s something different to really be running your own little venture. Next time I try it, and I’m sure that I will, I’m going to do it with some real money behind me, because now I feel like I know what I’m doing.
OK, on to the next thing.
