Custom home theater and media center setup

It should be pretty obvious by now that I’m not really capable of doing less than too much at any given point in time.

Since I’m down here in LA with my friend Chris Pitcher, we decided to put our heads (and skills) together and do a little home theater and custom media center installation “on the side.” It’s called Digital Clicker, and what we do is, for those of you in LA, we’ll help you pick the right TV and speakers for the setup you want, install them, and then build you a custom-spec media center PC, so that you can record and pause TV (like TiVo, but without the subscription), get HDTV off-air (free HDTV!) and, say, make a library of all your DVDs so that you can simply scroll through them with your remote and pick one to watch.

This is kind of an everyone-wins type of deal. You get a cool home theater setup, we get to pay rent, and you get to pay about $20/hr less than you would for “professional” installation, but get the same stuff. Oh an also, most places that do this type of setup won’t usually build you a custom rig.

Our web site is in fact a blog, and we’re going to try to keep track of cool new developments or tips and tricks that we run across. I’d expect about a post a week. So check it out if you’re curious about home theater setups, and tell all your friends.
