Disenfranchised by the USPS
[Image: usps logo]I’m a good little American - I vote in every election, and I have since I was 18. I believe that my vote, when it is counted, counts for something, and I also believe that voting allows me to legitimately complain about my representatives.
I vote absentee for the state of Washington while I’m down here at school in California, and I mailed by absentee ballot from the Pasadena Post Office - the official city one - on the 4th of November. Since Washington is a really cool state, we count all absentee votes that are postmarked by election day.
Today, the 13th of November, I received my signed and sealed ballot in my mail. Yes, the USPS actually mailed my ballot to me. It’s funnier if you see the envelope; there’s a giant box on the front that says “TO: WASHINGTON ELECTIONS OFFICE - DO NOT DELAY.” It’s less funny when you think about how close some of the elections are this year in Washington.
Like I said earlier though, it was postmarked on the 4th, so I went back into the mail room on campus and explained to them that the USPS is a little slow and could they please rush this on up for me. So hopefully my vote will count - but at this point, who knows?
