Gears of War le freeze le often

[Image: gow]I think the cruelest thing about Gears of War is that our Xbox freezes on the damn thing once every ten minutes or so.

From the intermittent play I’ve managed to grab, this game is amazing. The graphics are so pretty I find myself gawking at them when I should be, I dunno, playing instead. It plays a little bit more like an arcade game than your classic shooter, which once you get used to it, is really fun.

They’ve made amazing use of the environment for cover and, I think I can safely say, this is the first game I’ve ever played where “suppressing fire” means something. It turns into a pretty sleek dynamic once you realize the enemy AI is pretty damn good, and you have to really take advantage of anything you can duck behind.

We’ve found out that if you let the box warm up a bit before you hit any major action or checkpoints, you can sometimes get it to run for a solid few hours before it dies, but we haven’t been able to trick the box with much consistency.

In any case, Gears of War, at least at first glance, is a title you’ve gotta have.
