Follow up on iTunes idiocy (or Dear Apple, fix your stupid software)

I remembered (as I’m sure I would have eventually) that all my playlists and ratings and play counts and data and such are on my iPod, intact.

However, I just spent an hour and a half figuring out how to connect the damn ipod to my computer without having iTunes automatically erase my iPod (because I have it set to auto update). I can’t set it to manually update unless the ipod is connected (WHAT? Whose dumf*&k idea was that?).

So i had to create a new iTunes music library (hold shift while opening iTunes) so that it wouldn’t be associated with this ipod, and it would ASK me before deleting everything.

However, it’s impossible to get the data (not the songs - THE DATA) from the iPod to iTunes. Seems like a pretty simple and useful feature, right? Not according to Apple.

So I’m actually going to have to PAY $20 TO SOME THIRD PARTY to buy some software that re-loads everything from my iPod to my computer.

Even better, these programs won’t just copy the data EITHER. I actually have to DELETE ALL MY MUSIC and reload it entirely from my ipod BECAUSE APPLE IS TOO F$*&ING PROPRIETARY to let me RESTORE MY PLAYLISTS AND RATING DATA to my iTunes library file.

I don’t know why I’m so mad about this. Maybe because it’s finals and I have two huge tests on Friday and I can’t concentrate because I don’t have my music and I’m really attached to my music.

It’s like when my roommate called Microsoft to have them fix his xbox360, and they told him how they were gonna take great care of him, and then made him pay to ship in the 360 to get it fixed (he still hasn’t done it). It’s like, come on, you just told me how great your service was, and now I’m dropping $20 to ship you something that was broken when I bought it?

Well, all I hear is how great Apple is and how great their service is and how it’s all sunshine and roses, and all I got when I called AppleCare (which is hard to figure out how to do in the first place) was “oh yeah. that can’t be done.”
