My new setup
I sometimes spend more time arranging my things than actually using them. Like this site, I constantly want to reorganize my room or my desk or my kitchen. It’s just a flaw.
When I came back down to LA a few weeks ago I was really worried about figuring out a good, streamlined way to set myself up with both my new laptop and my old desktop that was still hogging my entire desk. It turns out the solution was pretty simple: a KVM switch.
I have my laptop sitting on a monitor stand right next to my monitor, so it’s a little raised up, and both my keyboard and mouse are hooked in to a USB KVM switch that lets me pick which computer I want them to be used for. The switch is also designed to let me use one monitor, but the screen on this MBP is definitely better than my old monitor, so I didn’t hook that up.
In any case, it’s working more or less flawlessly, which is always surprising with technology.
