Grumble ATM fees grumble grumble

I went to the Santa Anita racetrack last weekend without any cash, which was a stupid idea in retrospect, but, what can you do. I decided that I’d go ahead and pull some cash from one of their ATMs.

Now the machine warned me that there was a $3 surcharge on the transaction, and I said OK. I got my $60, they charged me $3. On my statement it’s listed as a withdrawal of $63. So far, so good. Then BofA lists a separate, $4 charge, for a “domestic non bank-of-america fee.”

That’s pretty dickish.

Now I realize what happened here. The machine at the track took out $63 from my account, and pocketed the three. Then, BofA said, “wait a minute, that’s not our ATM. We need to charge him.” So I actually got hit twice, for a total of $7, just to take out $60.

That’s really lame.
