Dual Core, Double-heat?
I’ve been trying to figure out, in the past few days, why my processor seems to be running extra-hot. According to PC Probe II, the utility that came with my motherboard, it idles around 38 degrees and when it hits a workload it goes up to 45 or 46.
There’s nothing dangerous about having a CPU in that temperature range, but it’s totally the wrong temperature. My friend Chris has a faster chip (the Intel Dual Core 2.97Ghz) that he’s already overclocked, and *that* thing runs cooler than my chip. We have essentially the same heat sink and fan on the chips, as well.
So I *know* that temp is way hotter than it should be. The BIOS also lists the temperature around upper 30’s/low 40’s.
A little utility called CoreTemp lists my individual cores as idling around 27 or 28 degrees. That’s way more reasonable, and closer to what I’d expect. But then why is my BIOS giving my such high readings? I think I need to call Asus.
