Am I better off not being at E3?

[Asassin’s Creed] was ridiculously good! Like POWPOW to the nth degree. So was crysis and bio shock. And a few other awedome games. Oh the new tony hawk is good too.

…the fifth text-message update just buzzed my phone from my friend who is currently down in LA, at E3. I’ve never had the opportunity to attend myself. And yet…

I’m not sure how much I’m missing this year. The big downsize has removed a lot of the distractions from the floor, I’m sure, but the distractions are why I’ve wanted to go in the past. In my mind, you go to E3 for the same reason you go to Vegas.

I think the ESA might be trying to force the industry into “growing up.” Which is silly, because frankly, it’s the video game industry. It’s entertainment. Sure, video games aren’t just for kids, but video games are for fun. Of course, the ESA could also just be trying to save game companies from spending gazillions of dollars on the displays.

As nice as it would be to get some play time in with games that I’ve been drooling over like Crysis, I’m like Tycho in my cynical approach to marketing materials. What in this video is truly representative of the game? What is pre-rendered? What is the campaign actually like?

I feel like for an event like this, which is mainly a big marketing venue, I’m almost better off just picking through the coverage online.

Still, it would be fun to go.
