Steam returns Supreme Commander from the grave
[Image: Supreme Commander]The motherboard for my crazy self-built new gaming rig came with a copy of Supreme Commander, which was very handy because every review tells me that game is sweet. It was also handy because in the new Games For Windows system, Supreme Commander recommends a computer that ranks a “5.0” in vista. Mine ranks a 5.6 ;)
The game came in a flimsy little paper sleeve, however, so I diligently wrote the CD key down in an excel file on my hard drive, so I wouldn’t lose it in case I ever needed to install it again. Unfortunately for me, Fate likes a good laugh, so I lost the game disc. I only played the game once.
Today Valve announced that Supreme Commander, among other games, will be available on Steam:
The starting line up of THQ titles heading to Steam starting today spans a wide range of genres and hails from some of the most prestigious development studios in the gaming industry, such as THQ’s Relic Entertainment, Gas Powered Games, and Pandemic. Specifically, the titles are:
Supreme Commander - (Strategy; developed by Gas Powered Games)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl - (Action; developed by GSC Game World)
Company of Heroes - (Strategy; developed by Relic Entertainment)
Titan Quest - (Role playing; developed by Lore Entertainment)
Titan Quest: Immortal Throne - (Role Playing; developed by Lore Entertainment)
Full Spectrum Warrior - (Action; developed by Pandemic)
Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers - (Action; developed by Pandemic)
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Gold Edition - (Strategy; developed by Relic Entertainment)
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade - (Strategy; developed by Relic Entertainment)
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Platinum Edition - (Strategy; developed by Relic Entertainment)
This is wonderful news, because now I can type in my CD Key and play the game through Steam regardless of where that nefarious disc has run itself off to. Also, I’ll never have to find that silly Dawn of War disc again. Hooray for the disc-less future!
