Signed up for the Steam Community Beta

…And it’s still definitely in Beta. There are a lot of missing features that, if you look at the running changelog wiki, the team at Valve is working furiously to add.

I set up my profile in Steam, which anyone (I think) can get to at this link. If you want to join up to the beta yourself, you’ve got to go to the “Settings” button at the bottom of the main Steam window, and then select “The Steam Community” in the “Betas” section.

After that Steam will reboot and you’ll be good to go.

I created a few groups, although I have yet to figure out how anyone can join them. There’s no search at all yet, and I can’t figure out a way to browse through what’s available. If you grab the Steam Community beta, I made a group for us early-adopting kick-butt game bloggers here. Join up if you can.

At the moment, there’s a little summary button in the sidebar of my profile page. I hope that Valve decides to make something like this a portable badge that I can plunk in my own sidebar:
