Pictures of the Day

[Image: Snowy Streets]I’m still not sure why I’m calling it “Picture of the Day,” because I’m only posting them three times per week, but I guess it has something to do with the fact that “picture of the thrice-weekly” doesn’t have the same ring to it.

In any case I’ve finally set up a portion of Jason-Preston.com that I’ve been wanting to try for some time now: a photoblog. You can find it up in the top navigation now with the link POTD and it has its own separate RSS feed.

This photoblog largely a product of the Canon Digital Rebel XTi that I received as a graduation gift last June from my parents. Since then, I’ve had a bunch of opportunities to learn more about taking pictures and to get used to using the camera, as well as learn how to run a good photoblog from the best one out there.

I’m also lucky enough to have relatively free access to my dad’s collection of Canon lenses, which includes a 50mm/1.4 and a 200mm, both of which compliment the 28-105mm lens that I got with the camera. I’m going to try to remember to include the basic info with each picture so that if you hover your mouse over each image you can see what lens I was using and with what settings.

From here on out I’m going to make an effort to take my camera and at least one lens with me most of the places I go so that I’ll have a regular stream of new and interesting pictures to share. I’ve lined up several weeks worth of images to start with, so I have (and hope I can maintain) a nice buffer. In the past, I haven’t done to well with schedules. We’ll see how this one goes.

You can also purchase any of the images if you decide you really like them. At the moment you’ve only got two options: you can get a hi-res JPEG for $7, which is a real steal considering that once you’ve got the JPEG it’s like a ripped MP3; you may do with it as you will (except sell it, of course, but I can’t really stop you from doing that).

The other option is to buy an 8” by 12” print copy of the image for $20. That covers my time, effort, and cost of printing you a copy. You’re going to have to eat the shipping costs too, but this is not eBay, and I’m not going to add $20 for a $1.42 package. You pay what the postage stamp says.

You can and should, of course, enjoy the images I upload for free. Go check out the first picture. And don’t forget to add the RSS feed to your reader.
