Netflix to stop carrying HD-DVDs by the end of the year
According to PaidContent, Netflix is switching completely to Blu-Ray:
Online movie renter Netflix (NSDQ: NFLX) is switching over to Blu-ray exclusively, following four major movie studios in selecting the Sony (NYSE: SNE) technology over the HD DVD format marketed by Toshiba. Netflix has stocked both formats since they became available in 2006. ââ¬ÅFrom the Netflix perspective, focusing on one format will enable us to create the best experience for subscribers,ââ¬Â said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer for Netflix, in a statement.
They’d better keep letting me rent the HD-DVDs they do have.
What’s annoying is that I’m going to need legacy HD-DVD support in all my stuff going forwards, regardless of which format ends up “winning” (looks like Blu-Ray. Sony WTF? Sony never wins format wars…)
