The New Seattler (or something)
For a while now I’ve thought it would be a fun project to set up a magazine based in Seattle that is like The New Yorker.
The New Yorker is kind of an elitist publication, but often deservedly so. I think that we in Seattle often think highly enough of ourselves that there’s a market for a self-congratulatory literary publication.
The New Yorker and the Atlantic Monthly pretty much have the national stage nailed. I’m not talking about competing with them. I’m thinking of something that has an ultimate end-goal print run of 10,000. Realistically, it will all be online in 10 years anyway.
I think that rather than having a literary magazine about Seattle I should start one that’s about being written by Seattleites.
In other words, if you want to know who’s who among Seattle thinkers and writers, or for some reason you want to know what they think and write, this is the local magazine to pick up.
Sounds like fun. But I need a name.
