Suggestions for Zune
I recently bought a Zune pass, which is a pretty sweet deal, and I think it’s one of the few things Microsoft is really kicking ass at right now ($15 per month, unlimited music access, plus you keep ten songs per month).
This is a great solution for home stereo setups because I can just attach a computer to whatever system I want playing music. Right now I have the media center hooked up to the obvious stereo system, and I have an old laptop that half-runs the Zune software to power the system in my room.
I also bought the Orb Live iPhone application, which means I can access the songs I download through my iPhone. Better than nothing, but I’d still rather stream the full Zune library.
I cannot, however, run Zune on my MacBook Pro. Which makes me very angry. I also can’t emulated (or I can’t figure out how to emulate the absolutely heavenly listening experience on Pandora: pick a song or an artist, and the software composes a playlist for you on the fly.
If I were running Zune, I’d tackle those two issues immediately. Building a lightweight Mac client shouldn’t take much work, and you’re looking to make money on the music subscriptions, not the PC sales. Plus it will get mac users to buy Zune devices.
And nobody needs to tell you how many people love Pandora. Just copy the idea.
