Xbox Live is the new cable
This from the announcement about Felicia Day keynoting at SXSW 2011:
In a ground-breaking deal, “The Guild” partnered with Xbox to produce and release seasons 2, 3 and 4 on Xbox Live, while allowing Day to retain the intellectual property rights to her show.
I finally realized: Xbox Live is the future of cable. It’s a closed-platform (i.e. easy to develop for), IP-based, interactive link and distribution system directly to millions of people’s television sets; it allows for two-way communication, and people already have their credit cards tied to these accounts.
Content is automatically time-shiftable, selectable, chat-around-able…this is brilliant. With Kinect in the picture (heh), you can now offer video call in to shows from people’s own homes.
Oh. Em. Gee.
Who wants to start the first TV channel on Xbox Live?
