Nordstrom testing iPods, other devices for checkout

A while back (I’m not sure when because I’m not sure how to find out the date a question was asked on Quora) I asked:

Why is Apple the only retailer to remove the checkout counter?

Is there a legal, data-backed, or operational reason why stores like Best Buy and Express don’t equip their employees with mobile devices that can charge credit cards, or is it simply cultural?

And today, Geekwire shares that:

Seattle-based retailer Nordstrom mentioned during its annual shareholders meeting yesterday that it has been testing mobile point-of-sale devices at its Bellevue and Seattle stores, to reduce wait times for customers checking out with credit cards

Guess it’s just cultural. Seems like a great opportunity for a company like Square to start handling the processing fees for quite a lot of retail sales.
